Company Offers a Complete Portfolio of Full Turnkey Module Products and Controller Solutions

SAN DIEGO, Calif., January 17, 2017 — AgigA Tech, Inc., a leading provider of high-speed, high-density, battery-free nonvolatile memory solutions and a subsidiary of Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NASDAQ: CY), today announced the production release of its AGIGARAM® family of JEDEC-compliant DDR4 NVDIMM-N solutions. The solutions join AgigA’s market-leading, pre-JEDEC (or “Legacy”) DDR4 NVDIMM products already in volume production to provide a broad portfolio of full turnkey module products and controller solutions that adhere to the recent publicly released JEDEC standards around NVDIMM-N solutions (JESD248 and JESD245A).

AgigA has 8GB and 16GB NVDIMM-N module solutions available today, with 32GB under development and slated for release later this year. AgigA also offers controller chipset solutions for OEM partners to develop their own branded NVDIMM-N products. The AGIGARAM family of chipsets are highly programmable, enabling them to support multiple NVDIMM-N requirements, including designs with or without data multiplexors, as well as NAND Flash solutions from various memory vendors. Additionally, AgigA provides a full line of PowerGEM® modules, the industry’s most reliable battery-free energy solutions that provide power during data backup, supporting both AgigA and OEM NVDIMMs

“AgigA Tech was the first to sample a DDR4 NVDIMM over two years ago, and we have since focused on perfecting and expanding our offerings while working with our key OEM partners,” said Ron Sartore, president and CEO of AgigA Tech. “With the recent release of the JEDEC NVDIMM-N standards, this market is poised for significant growth in the coming years, with multiple market reports forecasting well over $1 billion by 2020.”

The NVDIMM-N standard defined by JEDEC offers a new class of nonvolatile memory developed to meet the need for higher-performance persistent memory for enterprise-class storage and server applications, providing the low latency and nearly infinite endurance of DRAM, along with the non-volatility of Flash. Enterprise and data center applications were previously constrained by the higher latency of existing storage solutions such as SSDs, but they are now able to remove a significant system bottleneck with the deployment of NVDIMM-N solutions in their storage hierarchy. With the recent introduction of the JEDEC specifications, NVDIMM-N hardware and software integration just became much easier.

About AGIGARAM

AGIGARAM is a new class of nonvolatile memory developed to meet the need for higher-performance persistent memory for enterprise-class storage and server applications. By combining industry-standard DRAM and NAND Flash technology, AGIGARAM provides the low latency and nearly infinite endurance of DRAM, along with the non-volatility of Flash. During normal operation, AGIGARAM appears to the host system as a standard JEDEC DRAM memory module. In the event of an unexpected power loss, the critical data residing in the DRAM is saved to onboard NAND Flash using a battery-free power source based on ultracapacitors. When power is returned, the in-memory state of the DRAM at the time power was lost is restored from the Flash. The recovery time from a catastrophic power-loss event is almost immediate since the restore operation takes a matter of seconds and recharging the ultracapacitors takes only minutes. AGIGARAM is designed to integrate easily into the DIMM slots of industry-standard server and storage platforms, providing the fastest possible persistent memory for use cases such as write caching, metadata storage and other in-memory computing applications.

Twelve Leading Companies Collaborate to Broaden Industry Support & Knowledge on a Critical New Storage Technology, SNIA Annual Members Symposium / NVM Summit

Twelve leading Non-Volatile DIMM (NVDIMM) vendors have formed the NVDIMM Special Interest Group (NVDIMM SIG) to accelerate awareness and adoption of this technology in the marketplace. The NVDIMM SIG is being organized as an open community under the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) Solid State Storage Initiative (www.snia.org/forums/sssi), which will provide logistical and promotional support for the SIG, and includes vendors AgigA Tech1, IDT, Inphi, Intel, Micron, Microsoft Corporation, Netlist1, Pericom1, Samsung, SK Hynix, SMART Modular Technologies, and Viking Technology. The SIG’s first public activity will take place at a Storage Industry Summit focused on NVM Technology on January 28, 2014 during the SNIA Annual Members’ Symposium in San Jose, CA.

A Non-Volatile Dual In-line Memory Module (NVDIMM) is a computer memory module that retains data in the event of an unexpected power loss, planned shutdown or other system failure. The NVDIMM module combines multiple memory technologies (DRAM and flash), plus logic and an independent power source to ensure data protection or memory persistence. NVDIMMs can also be used to improve application performance, data security and to enhance both SSD endurance and reliability.

“The emergence of Solid State Storage and Non-Volatile Memory technologies represents perhaps the most profound discontinuity the storage industry has seen, driving fundamental changes in computer and storage system architectures. SNIA has addressed this with a number of standards and education initiatives,” said David Dale, SNIA Chairman. “We welcome and support the creation of the NVDIMM SIG to help the industry along the path to Storage Class Memory.”

The NVDIMM SIG will:

* Provide education on how system vendors can “design-in” NVDIMMs. * Communicate existing industry standards, and areas for vendor differentiation. * Help technology and solution vendors whose products integrate NVDIMMs to communicate their benefits and value to the greater market. * Develop vendor-agnostic user perspective case studies, best practices, and vertical industry requirements to help both end user customers and vendors understand how products and solutions can meet performance, cost, and efficiency goals.

“As NVDIMM adoption begins to ramp in the marketplace, there is a need for education and understanding of the benefits that NVDIMM technology can bring,” said Adrian Proctor, Acting Chair of the NVDIMM SIG from Viking Technology. “The NVDIMM SIG will help to bring together our clients, colleagues, and the community to ensure an ecosystem that enables ease of adoption for NVDIMMs.”

The NVDIMM SIG will participate in a Storage Industry Summit themed The Future of Computing – The Convergence of Memory and Storage through Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) January 28, 2014 at the Sainte Claire Hotel in San Jose CA. This event, held during the SNIA Annual Members’ Symposium, will offer critical insights into NVM and storage. Registration for the Summit, and for the Symposium, is complimentary. The full agenda is at http://snia.org/events/symp2014.

A new webpage under the Solid State Storage Technology Community on the SNIA websitewww.snia.org/nvdimm provides a knowledge resource for presentations, white papers, FAQs, and webcasts on NVDIMM contributed by SIG companies. Materials from the Storage Industry Summit will also be available on this page. For those interested in joining the NVDIMM SIG, please contactnvdimmsigchair@snia.org.

Battery-Free AGIGARAM® Non-Volatile Memory Delivers Speed of DRAM While Safely Backing Critical Data in Power Outages

SAN DIEGO, Calif. and ISSAQUAH, Wash., October 8, 2013 — In the industry’s first test of in-memory database system (IMDS) speed and recoverability using emerging Non-Volatile DIMM (NVDIMM) technology, AgigA Tech Inc., a subsidiary of Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NASDAQ: CY) and McObject® today announced that McObject has successfully benchmarked its eXtremeDB® IMDS using AgigA Tech’s AGIGARAM® Non-Volatile DIMM (NVDIMM) as the main memory storage. The tests included “pulling the plug” mid-execution, which confirmed the AGIGARAM product’s ability to save data persistently in the event of system failure, and to facilitate recovery.

In addition, eXtremeDB’s speed managing data in AgigA Tech’s NVDIMM proved equal to using conventional memory (DRAM). Alternative IMDS mechanisms that safeguard data from system failure, such as transaction logging, introduce latency. By delivering peak performance along with full data durability, the combination of eXtremeDB IMDS and the AGIGARAM NVDIMM opens the door to a new and powerful approach to managing data in applications that demand both speed and durability, including mission critical systems for telecom/networking, capital markets, aerospace and industrial control.

McObject has published the results of its benchmark tests using eXtremeDB and AgigA Tech’s NVDIMM in a free report available at www.mcobject.com/imds-nvdimm-paper.

“The idea that there must be a tradeoff between performance and persistence/durability has become so ingrained in the database field that it is rarely questioned,” said Steve Graves, McObject CEO. “McObject’s test of the eXtremeDB IMDS with AgigA Tech’s AGIGARAM NVDIMM shows that mission critical applications needn’t accept latency as the price for recoverability. Developers working in a variety of application categories will view this as a breakthrough, and we look forward to our customers enjoying the benefits of the joint eXtremeDB/AGIGARAM NVDIMM solution.”

“An In-Memory Database System is perhaps the ideal application to take advantage of the features of NVDIMMs,” said Ron Sartore, CEO of AgigA Tech. “Our AGIGARAM NVDIMMs provide the speed and endurance of DRAM with the persistence of flash. McObject’s impressive benchmark reveals the value of this combination.”

In-memory database systems store records in main memory, leveraging DRAM’s superior read/write speed while eliminating the file I/O, cache management, data transfer and other overhead inherent in traditional database management systems (DBMSs) that incorporate persistent storage. As a result, IMDSs perform an order of magnitude faster than their disk-based counterparts.

But some applications require a higher level of data durability than DRAM can provide. As a solution, IMDS vendors offer transaction logging, which keeps a record of changes to the database that can be used to recover after a crash. But this logging requires writes to persistent storage (such as a solid state drive or hard disk), which adds some latency. IMDSs with transaction logging still outperform traditional on-disk DBMSs (by up to 23x, depending on storage devices used, according to McObject’s earlier published findings ) but they lag “pure” in-memory database systems deployed in DRAM.

One existing type of non-volatile RAM uses a battery to maintain data in memory during a power failure. However, disadvantages of this “battery-backed RAM” include restrictive temperature requirements, leakage risk, limited storage time, long re-charge cycles, finite battery shelf life, and overall high cost-of-ownership.

AgigA Tech was formed to develop technology that would overcome battery-backed RAM’s limitations. Its battery-free AGIGARAM NVDIMM combines standard DRAM with NAND flash and an ultracapacitor power source. When a system operates normally, AGIGARAM provides all the capabilities of high speed DRAM. But in the event of power loss, the ultracapacitor provides a burst of electricity used to write main memory contents to the NAND flash chip, where it can be held virtually indefinitely, with the AGIGARAM NVDIMM restoring data from NAND flash to DRAM upon system recovery.

McObject tested eXtremeDB using AgigA Tech’s 4 GB AGIGARAM DDR3 NVDIMM for main memory storage, on an Intel Oak Creek Canyon reference motherboard equipped with a Intel Pentium Dual Core CPU 1407 @ 2.8 GHz processor, as well as 8 GB of conventional memory. The benchmark application measured speed in separate tests of database inserts, updates, deletes, index searches and table traversals. In each test, the AGIGARAM NVDIMM delivered speed comparable to the results obtained using conventional memory.

To test response to failure, the system was re-booted during execution. Upon re-start, the test application launched automatically, accessed the database in its pre-failure state (upon recovery, the AGIGARAM NVDIMM had loaded it from flash into its DRAM), checked for database consistency and resumed operation.

Test application code enabling database recovery leveraged an eXtremeDB feature that supports the IMDS’s use with battery-backed RAM. It enables a process to re-connect to an NVRAM-hosted eXtremeDB database, initiate any needed cleanup, and resume normal operation after a system reboots. An application’s recovery algorithm assumes that the memory block of the database memory device assigned as MCO_MEMORY_ASSIGN_DATABASE can be re-used after a crash or power failure by re-opening it as an existing database.

About AGIGARAM®

AGIGARAM is a new class of non-volatile memory developed to meet the need for higher-density, higher-performance memory for enterprise-class storage and server applications. AGIGARAM is designed to integrate easily into the DIMM slots of industry-standard server and storage platforms, providing fast persistent memory for use cases such as write caching, metadata storage and other in-memory computing applications.

Industry-Standard Server Platform Utilizes AGIGARAM NVDIMMs To Offer Persistent Memory at DDR3 Speeds; Solution on Display at Flash Memory Summit, August 9-11

San Diego, Calif., August 8, 2011—AgigA Tech Inc., a subsidiary of Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NASDAQ: CY) and a leading provider of high-speed, high-density, battery-free non-volatile memory solutions, today introduced a new evaluation system for its AGIGARAM DDR3 Non-Volatile DIMM (NVDIMM) solutions. The new system integrates AgigA Tech’s second-generation DDR3 NVDIMM solutions into the standard DIMM sockets on an industry standard server platform. AgigA Tech also provides a Linux driver to reliably manage the system operation of preserving and restoring the contents of DRAM in the event of a power failure.

The new evaluation system is intended for developers of enterprise-class storage and server applications who are looking to take advantage of a persistent memory architecture that has the ultra-low latency of DRAM. Application usage may include write caching for RAID, hash look-up and coherency, database and translation layer management, fast transactional IO in a tiered storage architecture, or even whole system persistence. AgigA Tech will be showcasing the new evaluation system and more at the upcoming Flash Memory Summit at the Santa Clara Convention Center from August 9 to 11 in booth #213. Those interested in scheduling a meeting with AgigA Tech personnel can email info@agigatech.com.

AGIGARAM is a new class of non-volatile memory developed to meet the need for higher-density, higher-performance memory for enterprise-class storage and server applications. By combining DRAM, Flash, an intelligent system controller and an ultracapacitor power source, AGIGARAM provides a highly reliable memory subsystem that runs with the latency and endurance of the fastest DRAM, but with the persistence of Flash. Until recently, designers have reluctantly used batteries to maintain their data during power outages. Others have moved toward new flash-based technologies for memory persistence, but this option falls short of DRAM in terms of latency, speed, endurance and reliability. AGIGARAM enables the fastest possible system performance while also eliminating the many headaches associated with batteries, such as hazardous material disposal, short operating life and extensive maintenance.

“We’ve taken our second-generation DDR3 AGIGARAM NVDIMM solutions and integrated them into an industry standard server platform,” said Ron Sartore, CEO of AgigA Tech. “This new evaluation system provides a simple platform for developers to evaluate how our AGIGARAM technology can improve the performance, cost and reliability of their end products.”

Since 2007, AgigA Tech has focused on developing an innovative high-density, high-speed, battery-free non-volatile memory technology. As the inventor of the underlying technology and architecture of AGIGARAM, AgigA Tech has built up the strongest IP position in the industry. AgigA Tech has also pioneered the use of a battery-free power source based on ultracapacitor technology for this application. All AgigA Tech products utilize ultracapacitors that have gone through rigorous reliability and accelerated life testing at AgigA Tech’s reliability test lab. AgigA Tech has been continuously testing ultracaps for over 3 years, amassing a significant amount of test data that is unmatched in the industry. The test lab runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with multiple ultracap offerings from several manufacturers tested at varying operating temperatures and voltages. Based on this extensive test data, the most reliable ultracap products have been incorporated into the PowerGEM® modules used with the AGIGARAM products, and are privately labeled as qualified through the AGIGACAP™ reliability program.

DDR3 AGIGARAM Solutions Offer up to 8 GB Densities For Maintenance-Free Data Integrity for Storage and Server Applications

POWAY, Calif., August 11, 2010—AgigA Tech Inc., a subsidiary of Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (Nasdaq: CY), today announced the industry’s highest-density DDR3 solution as part of its family of high-speed, battery-free non-volatile RAM systems. The new solutions in the AGIGARAM non-volatile system (NVS) family deliver densities up to 8 gigabytes (GB) providing flexibility to system architects and designers to tailor non-volatile memory for specific application requirements. As the industry’s first to sample a 1 GB non-volatile DDR3 solution, AgigA Tech now extends the market’s broadest portfolio of battery-free non-volatile memory solutions with these newly introduced products.

The AGIGARAM product family merges NAND Flash, DRAM and a battery-free ultracapacitor power source into a highly reliable non-volatile memory system. When used as a write cache in enterprise-class applications, AGIGARAM provides a performance-boosting building block while guarding against power failures and consequent loss of critical data. The DDR3 products deliver data transfer speeds up to 1333 MT/s (megatransfers per second). AgigA Tech offers unique product support to boost reliability, including extensive ultracapacitor testing with a dedicated test lab, in-system health monitoring, a system safe control protocol, and extended lifetime operation. More information on the AGIGARAM systems is available at www.agigatech.com.

“AgigA Tech is completely focused on providing highly reliable non-volatile memory solutions to our customers,” said Ron Sartore, CEO of AgigA Tech. “Our newest additions to the AGIGARAM portfolio deliver worry-free data-protection with DDR3-1333 performance, and demonstrate our leadership commitment to the market.”

Complementing the nvSRAM offerings from Cypress, the AGIGARAM system scales and extends nonvolatile solutions to much higher densities. The next best high-density alternative, battery-backed memories, can offer high speeds, but are subject to numerous problems, such as hazardous material issues, increased design complexity, long charge times, limited operating life, and a high total cost of ownership.

The AGIGARAM system solves these problems with a novel use of a battery-free power sub-system, teamed with high-speed SDRAM, NAND Flash, intelligent power management and a proprietary system controller. During normal operation, the AGIGARAM system appears as a DDR3-registered DIMM to the host system, providing all the benefits and speed of a standard high-speed, high-density SDRAM. In the event of a power loss, the AGIGARAM system can be commanded to take control of the SDRAM and transfer its contents to Flash memory using energy from its ultracapacitor power source, thereby preserving all the SDRAM data. After power is restored, the AGIGARAM system can be commanded to transfer the contents back into the SDRAM and returns control to the host system. This functionality can be used for power interruption/loss immunity, write caching and posting, data logging and journaling, instant-on recovery, and service and maintenance processing.

AgigA Tech’s AGIGARAM Non-Volatile RAM System Named to EDN Magazines Hot 100 Products for 2009

Editor Review Describes How High-Speed, High-Density Battery-Free System Protects Against Memory Losses Caused by System Power Interruption

SAN JOSE, Calif., January 19, 2010—EDN magazine has recognized the AGIGARAM non-volatile system from AgigA Tech Inc., a subsidiary of Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NASDAQ: CY), as a 2009 Hot 100 Product. The AGIGARAM technology is the industrys first high-speed, high-density non-volatile RAM system, delivering densities between 4 megabytes (32 megabits) and 2 gigabytes (16 gigabits) and peak transfer rates equivalent to DRAMs. EDN editors sort through thousands of new products and technologies introduced each year to identify items for the annual Hot 100 Products list. The EDN product review of the AGIGARAM system is available at http://www.edn.com/blog/1470000147/post/20045002.html.

The AGIGARAM non-volatile system uses a battery free power sub-system, teamed with high-speed synchronous DRAM, NAND Flash, intelligent power management and a proprietary system controller. During normal operation the AGIGARAM functions exactly like a synchronous DRAM (SDRAM). When power is lost, however, it automatically saves the data to NAND Flash using the energy stored in the power subsystem. When power is restored, the data is transferred back into the SDRAM. This functionality can be used for power interruption/loss immunity, instant-on recovery, write caching and posting, data logging and journaling, and service and maintenance processing. More information on the AGIGARAM is available at http://www.agigatech.com.

Just as the AGIGARAM system has earned the attention of EDNs editors, customers have recognized this technology as a superior solution for high-speed, high-density non-volatile RAM, said Ron Sartore, CEO of AgigA Tech. Our flexible AGIGARAM families come in multiple form factors and host interfaces, offering the benefits of high-speed, non-volatile memory for a wide range of applications.

New AGIGARAM CAPRI Family with Up to a 2 Gigabyte Density Offers Turnkey DDR2 NV RAM System for Storage Systems, Gaming Systems, Industrial/Embedded Systems and More.

POWAY, Calif., September 29, 2009—AgigA Tech Inc., a subsidiary of Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE: CY), today introduced the markets highest-density, high-speed non-volatile RAM system. The AGIGARAM non-volatile systems (NVS) new CAPRI family delivers densities between 256 megabytes (2048 megabits) and 2 gigabytes (16 gigabits). The easy-to-use, turnkey family leverages a DDR2 SDRAM interface to deliver speeds up to 800 MHz with peak transfer rates equivalent to DRAMs. The CAPRI family enables many valuable system features such as zero standby power, power interruption immunity, instant on/recovery, write caching/posting, data logging, service/maintenance processing, journaling, unified memory architectures, and UPS replacement/redundancy. The products provide all these features while preserving mission-critical data.
